STEVE MASLEN - Director
Director of Red Squirrel Media and Maslen Environmental Ltd and chairs Evolve EB.
After gaining a post-graduate master of philosophy in landscape architecture, Steve worked in landscape, forestry and environmental services for Macclesfield Borough Council, where he liaised closely with Government agencies in developing the council's Derelict Land, Environmental Improvement and Conservation Programmes.
In 1986 he took the position of landscape team leader in the land reclamation division of Wakefield City Council, working on a range of improvement projects from small scale neglected sites to the huge Welbeck Land Reclamation and Landfill Project.
Two years later he established his own landscape practice and subsequently developed a range of companies providing specialist services to local authorities and public and private organisations with core environmental involvement.
Steve guest lectures and tutors at the Metropolitan University of Leeds and has presented at the Environmental Management Summer School at Cambridge, the International Land Reclamation Conference and the Annual Arboricultural Association Conference.
He is a committee member of the British Land Reclamation Society and a member of the Landscape Institute’s Education Annual Review Group, which accredits university courses in landscape architecture.
SUZANNE HUDSON - Projects Manager
Accounts Manager with a proven track record in effective teamworking and project management.
A design graduate with special interest in interior and environmental improvement, Suzanne has worked with chartered surveyors and interior design houses for a raft of private domestic, construction and public sector clients.
As Community Grants Manager for the grant-awarding bodies Yorventure and Evolve EB, she has developed a strong general knowledge of environmental issues, including conservation work and biodiversity action plans, together with a fundamental understanding of project management from design to completion.
Her communication and organisational skills are regularly called upon in liaising with Press and broadcast media at local and regional level, as well as in organising opening events, celebrations and launches. She has been responsible for developing and re-branding company images through the use of logos, signage and websites and is well versed in establishing viable design briefs and specifications for fulfilment by the RSM design team.
LIAM CREAN - STUDIO MANAGER
An accomplished and highly creative Print and Web Designer with an BA honours degree and more than ten years’ studio experience. Working for a raft of local authorities, public and private organisations, Liam’s expertise includes print design, printer management and a good knowledge of the client/contractor work stream. He has working experience in all the industry standard desktop publishing software including Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator and Freehand.
Projects include large-scale poster campaigns, bus advertising, logo design, exhibitions, leaflet/ brochure production and newspaper/magazine advertisements.
An accomplished Web Designer, Liam specialises in creating sites with the focus on usability, accessibility and information architecture. He is fully conversant in the web design and development process and registers domains, manages hosting, develops site content, analyses website visitor statistics and administrates the server.
Liam is also an expert in Internet marketing techniques used to improve clients’ website positions in Search Engines including Google, Yahoo, Ask and MSN.

ANGELA SPENCER - Journalist
A journalist with 25 years’ general news reporting experience in both Press and broadcast media.
A former crime correspondent for the Yorkshire Post and reporter/producer for Yorkshire Television, with a string of media awards for investigative reporting and feature writing over an expansive subject field.
Angela writes regularly for magazines produced by the National College for School Leadership and the Association of School and College Leaders and has also contributed to The Guardian Education Supplement.
She is an approved writer for the Department of Health, compiling NHS policy and case study material for dissemination to the national Press and contributes to Inform and Taste, magazines of the Regional Development Agency Yorkshire Forward. In a public relations capacity, Angela has written numerous news and features articles for clients, which have appeared in industry journals and national newspapers including The Independent.
She is also well versed in writing for websites, producing a whole range of content for commercial clients.
STEVE POWELL - Freelance Multimedia Designer
A highly talented web, video and print designer with an honours degree in visual communication and a post-graduate diploma in media production.
As a Video Producer for London company Upstream Film and Television, Steve produced presentations and corporate videos for a range of leading clients including Guinness, Kenwood Hi Fi, Waitrose and P&O Travel.
His subsequent work for advertising and media companies in London, Manchester and Leeds has included CDROM production, website design, advertising, conference presentations, point of sale and direct marketing.
Most recently he has designed, illustrated and programmed schools educational sites to promote environmental awareness on behalf of local authorities, using flash, CSS and html technologies.
Steve has amassed substantial experience and flexibility across a variety of media. In addition to his strong visual design ability, he has developed considerable programming knowledge and has both 2D and 3D animation skills.
MICHAEL BROOKE - Marketing Officer
A marketing graduate with an additional CIM postgraduate diploma in marketing.
Michael is an enthusiastic and well-organised marketeer with excellent communication skills and a keen knowledge of market research methodologies.
His role at Red Squirrel Media includes promoting the RSM brand and researching new areas for business development.
Prior to RSM, Michael was the commercial and marketing assistant to the Sales Director of leading UK bathroom company Shires Bathrooms Ltd, where he developed a comprehensive understanding of product and campaign management, market research, communications planning and business development.
He has also gained further valuable international marketing experience as Coordinator for Australian marketing company DTI, during which time he was responsible for developing promotional materials and communication plans.
HELEN WILKINSON - Administrator
A professional and highly valued receptionist and administration assistant with well-developed customer service skills.
A former Life and Pensions Administrator and Senior Mortgage Underwriter, Helen has worked with a wide spectrum of finance professionals and members of the public and has sought to continually update her personal skills through courses in time management, customer service, quality and auditing.
In addition to her front-of-house and traditional administration responsibilities, she maintains office accounting and general IT systems and regularly engages in research and proof reading in support of our communications work.
