Recycling SantaDuring the festive season a third more waste - about 3million tonnes - is produced, most of which goes to landfill. Now Calderdale Council is asking people to carry on recycling when it comes to all those bottles, wrapping paper, packaging and Christmas cards!

" Let’s all show some seasonal goodwill to the environment by recycling more this Christmas. If we change our habits now we could make these green solutions our New Year's Resolution"

says Malcolm Akroyd, Waste Manager. Recycling collections will resume on 2nd January after a 1 week pause.

To get this message across, Father Christmas will be visiting the Southgate Precinct in Halifax on Friday 9th December between 10am and 4pm, and then the Ovenden Initiative Centre, Nursery Lane on Saturday 10th December between 10am and 11.30am, as part of the new recycling promotion - Reduce the Waste, Improve Your Place .

Father Christmas will be handing out goodies along with recycling tips and advice for the Christmas period.
