LET'S GET RECYCLING - AND WIN PRIZES!

STEP 1: Find out about ‘Reduce the Waste - Improve your Place’
and the prizes to be won Come along to our launch event at Forest Cottage, Cousin Lane on Wednesday 26th October 2005 anytime between 10am and 2pm. There'll be information about your local kerbside recycling schemes; FREE spring bulbs & reusable shopping bags; the children can take part in a huge painting; AND you can enter our first prize draw.

STEP 2: Make sure you're ready to recycle
If you haven't got a recycling box (for glass) or recycling bag (for paper), just contact us on the Recycle for Calderdale helpline 01422 368471 and we'll get you one for free

STEP 3: Get recycling, and win prizes
For you and your community! Each time you recycle (on the three collection rounds:Mon 31st Oct/ Tues 1st Nov; then 14th/15th Nov; and then 28th Nov/29th Nov) you'll get a voucher to enter into our prize draw - main prize £100 Argos vouchers. And the more Ovenden recycles in these collections the more money Calderdale Council will pay to the Ovenden Initiative to improve your community and environment

STEP 4: The prizes are handed over
At 10am on 10th December at Ovenden Initiative Centre, Nursery Lane when 'Father Christmas comes to Ovenden!'

What’s it all about?

So far in Ovenden we recycle about 4 tonnes a month – and, like everywhere else in Calderdale, we need to do better! Now the Government has given us a special grant; if we can increase the amount we recycle towards 20 tonnes a month then there’ll be prizes – both for the community and for individual winners.

For every additional tonne recycled, £25 per month will be paid to the Ovenden Initiative – up to a maximum of £3000 - for use within the community (on projects like improving garden areas, planting, play areas - to be selected by the residents themselves). So the more paper and glass you recycle, the more money will be spent to ‘improve your place’.

For individual households there’ll be recycling vouchers put through the letter box of every house which has recycled – in your next 3 collection rounds starting Mon 31st Oct/ Tuesday 1st November. Just fill in each voucher and take it to Ovenden Initiative Community Centre, Nursery Lane; Forest Cottage, Cousin Lane; Lee Mount Primary School or Pennine Housing, Turner Ave South; or post it to Calderdale MBC, Waste Strategy, Northgate House Halifax HX1 1UN; to arrive no later than Weds 7th Dec.

They’re your entry to the prize draw on Sat 10th December; Main Prize £100 ARGOS shopping vouchers, and there’ll be other prizes as well.
