RSM is Corby Borough Council's Flexible Friend

05th May 2007

Red Squirrel Media (RSM) brought a £21,000 contract to design a recycling communications campaign for Corby Borough Council in on time and to budget, despite additions to the brief part way through the project.

In December the council commissioned RSM to design, print and advise on promotion materials aimed at increasing recycling rates among residents in the Corby council area.

The brief was to produce clean, easy-to-understand literature for a new three-bin recycling campaign, including:

All the information had to adhere to both Corby’s high-quality standards and strict guidelines from project funders WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme), as well as featuring the nationally recognised recycling logo.

Weeks into the project, the council also needed to announce that residents would now be able to deposit mixed glass in one of the bins. In addition, it decided to order a new design of bin sticker and a series of pop-up display stands.

“The range of materials had to be produced to tight deadlines, but this was no problem," said RSM project manager Suzanne Hudson. “We simply split the project into two phases, delivering all the foundation information for phase one, by the 5th January and producing the remaining communication items which related to the new glass collection, including bin stickers, pop-up displays, posters, residential packs and flyers, by the 22nd January in order to keep to the council's campaign schedule.

James Vance, Sustainability /HECA Officer for Corby Borough Council said: “RSM were extremely enthusiastic about working with us, which really helped our decision to choose them over other design teams.

“They produced top quality designs and were open and honest about costs, even highlighting areas where we could maximise our budget through efficiency savings such as with print costs.

“We are very pleased with the way our campaign is going and are confident that our residents find the materials easy to understand. We would definitely use RSM’s services again.”

RSM has carried out hundreds of recycling campaigns for local authorities under the WRAP banner. Research shows that such campaigns do have a positive impact on local recycling rates.
