Red Squirrel Posters Show Climate Change is 'Snow' Joke
10th July 2007
Multimedia design company Red Squirrel Media will help get the snowball rolling in Bradford's Centenary Square on Tuesday (July 10) when the council officially launches its climate change awareness campaign.

Designers from Otley-based Red Squirrel Media, the company responsible for the 'act now before it snowballs' campaign will be among the throng gathered in Bradford city centre to see the council drop 20 tonnes of artificial snow to encourage people to think about climate change .
The council is one of the first local authorities to run such a publicity campaign, with the help of funding from DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).
Red Squirrel Media won the groundbreaking contract to design and produce posters now being displayed on billboards, buses and bus shelters throughout the city, bringing home the message that global warming is having a profound affect on the weather and traditional distinctions between the seasons no longer apply.
You may have seen the spring, posters showing a conker in a spring meadow, with a call to Conker Climate Change; the summer posters depict a snowball against a summer backdrop; in autumn a spring daffodil will appear against an autumnal scene; and in winter; well who are we to spoil the surprise, you'll just have to wait and see!
During Tuesday's event, council staff will distribute free guides that explain climate change, its causes and effects, as well as giving energy saving advice and tips about what we can all do to help limit the effects of global warming.
Local nursery school children have also been invited to don their hats and gloves and play in the artificial snow.
RSM graphic and web designer Louise Howey said: ”We have a strong track record working for the environment sector and have delivered a number of successful environmental campaigns for local authorities, so we are delighted to be part of such a highly creative and important project.
“I for one will be making the most of Tuesday' s opportunity to take a few hours away from the office to play in the snow!”
Bradford council's senior marketing officer Clare Bussingham said: ”We have worked with Red Squirrel Media on recycling campaigns in the past and have always been impressed by their excellent attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
“The campaign has the kind of high visual impact which we are sure will grab the public's attention and really raise awareness about climate change locally.”
